‘Mattress with walls’ flat in south London is yours to rent for £700 a month

This south London flat mockingly described as a “mattress with walls” could be yours for £700 a month.

The ground-floor studio apartment, a 10-minute bus journey from Elephant and Castle station, is being advertised to rent on Rightmove for £162 per week.

Three blurred photos give would-be residents a glimpse of the flat, which appears to be one small room plus a private shower.

Visible kitchen surface space is limited to a tiny area tucked behind a wall.

In a bizarre, error-strewn description on the website, the landlord seems to have written: “Water Rates and Council Tax are inclusive in this ground floor studio flat in Albany Rd. 10 minutes bus journey to Elephant and Castle Underground and Railway Station. Frequent bus service from Campbell-well Green Rd which is a minute from the property and all the multiples can be found on Wandsworth Rd [sic].”

A link to the listing was shared on Reddit, where users joined in mocking the furnished flat.

User skeletonclock, who first posted it, wrote: “This studio flat is a mattress with walls.”

Another observed: “Someone is playing a prank.”

The Evening Standard has endeavoured to contact the landlord for comment.
